In addition to the main theme addressed in its title my latest book Why We Remain Jews. The Path To Faith," also elaborates on such important issues as numerous personal stories about my experience of growing up in the Soviet Union, a country of the state atheism and state guided anti-Semitism, a harmony between Religion and Science, encounter and dealing with missionary activity, constructive interfaith dialogue and about respect to all life-asserting religions. Naturally, the central theme of the book is beauty of Judaism.

About the Author
Vladimir Tsesis grew up in the former Soviet Union and practiced General Pediatrics there for 10 years before immigration with his wife and son to the USA in 1974.
He was an active provider of medical care to Cholera Epidemic patients in Odessa, Ukraine in 1970.
After emigrating to the US Dr. Tsesis continued practicing pediatrics for another 30 years. Dr. Tsesis is an author of five successful books published in the USA and in Russia. He lives in Chicago area with his wife.

I hold the book “Why we remain Jews” in my hands. This book is written by Vladimir Tsesis who currently authored several remarkable books, and all of them are so much different in style, genre and philosophy. This one has an alive nature, and it breathes and changes along with the protagonist who is growing up from a curious little boy that investigated the world around, to a seasoned philosopher. One of the first and the main question that amazed him was about our beliefs and the wisdom of the universe, which he felt as the divine presence. From his childhood the boy watched Jewish traditions which were silently though respectfully abided by in the family. Nobody guided him in that direction, so he addressed all the questions to the books. With time his research and analysis became more profound in many fields. He turned into a true erudite. The book reveals the coherent cosmogony theory which is supported by the latest knowledge and scientific achievements. When the author describes the wisdom of the Jewish tradition he shows the inextricable connection between science and religion. Jewish religion makes the Jewish traditions alive and strong to survive all the hardships of life. The thoughts that the Jewish traditions are permeated with humaneness and love of life are beautifully presented with poetic profoundness. And the main idea of this story is that the tradition is alive only when it's supported by people. That is why we remain Jews. When you feel that this dignified responsibility is placed on your shoulders your heart starts beating with pride due to the complicity. Another richness of this book that captivates the reader is the beauty and sensitivity of the language. The sincerity of the story shows that the life journey to the faith was written from the heart.

This is a very clear and honest presentation of the authors search for spirituality. Having been raised in a society in which religion and God were dismissed as nonsense, this man discovered for himself that something greater must exist. He found it through his own exploration of the world around him.

All the books by Vladimir Tsesis capture the reader at once though in different ways. His new book is dedicated to the theme which is not so often addressed in the art of storytelling. Most commonly, people professing Judaism almost never describe how they felt the emergence of faith in their souls and lives without an attempt to incline the reader to join.

The author describes his life interestingly and vividly. Having spent his childhood and youth in a family were everybody was afraid talking about the religion as if it was some sort of taboo though Jewish customs were observed with knowledge and respect. The boy grew up as curious howcast gradually grasping and aggregating the proof of existence of the divine presence in his soul.

He and his family from the first days in America were attacked by some missionaries, who tried to impose their Christian faith on them but the author felt sure that the way he had chosen was right without a doubt.

Author strikes his erudition, his cosmogony arguments are based on the latest scientific achievements, and the idea of symbiosis between science and religion is presented very beautifully. His book shows the beauty and wisdom of the Jewish customs, rules and beliefs. He doesn't compel the reader to blindly follow. The author shares his happiness and pride to be a Jew. This is the main attraction of the book.

A Brilliant Work

Ed Friedman provided his readers and students with more than information about the human condition. He has given them a way to think, not just what to think. This book of fables, as the study booklet that accompanies it makes clear, is about life questions. A great deal of what one can know about life and self depends upon (a) where one stands when asking questions, and (b) the clarity and orientation of one's questions. The greatness of Ed Friedman is the clarity with which he has engaged the world. His "Generation to Generation" is a powerfully clear treatise on self and systems that has had a profound effect on thousands. I am given to understand that his daughter is arranging for editing and publishing "A Failure of Nerve" (available since 1999 only as a bound manuscript, loosely edited). Ed Friedman learned systems theory from Msurray Bowen (1913-1990), and his variant of Bowen Theory remains one of the clearest and most compelling expositions of the power of Bowen's work. "Friedman's Fables" is a testament to what can be done with Bowen when one thinks about the human condition with freedom and creativity, informed by the discipline of the most mature theory of human functioning today.
